Historical Information Injections into the skin for medicinal purposes have a long history in Chinese and Indian medicine. More recently (Table 1), Karl Baunscheidt 1847 was confident that medicine might operate even if it was injected superficially and experienced cutaneous injection at two millimeters. Alexander Wood (a Scottish Physician) injected the first dosage of dermic morphine to relieve pain in a variety of circumstances in 1853. Bartolomeo Guala initiated systematic hypodermic treatment in a hospital in 1860, and Gaetano Primavera in Naples conducted the first experiment to determine the degree of medication absorption in the urine following hypodermic delivery in 1867.
